KILLZONE 2 NEWS:

- Killzone 2 Multiplayer Details (IGN)

AXE FACTS: Set to make its debut exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in February of 2009, Killzone 2 (developed by Guerilla Games and published by SCE) is the third installment in the moderately successful Killzone franchise. The game’s story takes place after the first two titles (Killzone/PlayStation 2 and Killzone: Liberation/PSP) and hands over control of Sev (leader of the Alpha squad) as his unit is deployed behind enemy lines during an invasion Helghan.

The game will feature a single-player campaign that the developers hope delivers “Hollywood Realism” while the multiplayer component in the game will reportedly support up to 32 players at a time.

MY SLICE (The Axe Wielder): Ah…Killzone 2. I remember exiting the sound stage in LA when the game was first announced with that, um, “trailer”, back at E3 2005. The ensuing controversy made many a gamer, developer and Sony PR rep lose countless hours of sleep, but in the end, the game looks to actually live up to the initial lofty standards…at least graphically. I’m not TOO excited about Killzone 2, because I don’t see anything extremely different from other FPS titles. The AI is my ticket and the bullet I’ll live or die by. If it’s revolutionary in some sort of way I believe KZ will be firmly established as a great FPS franchise. But should it falter and leave the game playing a generic shooter with amazing graphics…well, I’d say the word “kill” is appropriate since the franchise might just as well be dead.
